At the Movies, Finally

October 20, 2009

As I get older, it becomes harder to be the youngest person in the room.  Patti and I managed this last Sunday, however.  How?  We went to see “Julie and Julia”.  There’s nothing like Meryl Streep to bring out the senior citizens, I guess.  The movie I really wanted to see was the Harry Potter one, but unfortunately, it was no longer playing in any theaters.  (What happened to discount theaters?)  I’ve been wanting to see the Harry Potter movie since the day it came out, but every weekend, something came up.  Sometimes I had to work, sometimes Patti had to work.  Other times Colin had a birthday party to attend.  And I’ll admit, on some Sundays I Read the rest of this entry »

Festival Food

July 23, 2009

The food is always unhealthy and certainly overpriced, but as a periodic treat, I love eating festival food. I love all the stands with the huge signs and the grills and deep fryers everywhere. Last weekend, I was at one of these outdoor summer festivals in Menlo Park, where I enjoyed some deep fried calamari, kalua pork and crawfish etoufee. All three items were delicious. Colin enjoyed some of the calamari and had his own corn dog. Talk about food festivals, one of the biggest is coming up this weekend, Read the rest of this entry »

Garlic Fries

April 13, 2009

I can never resist them. Garlic fries. Whenever I see garlic fries on a menu, I order them. This past Saturday, when I was at Stanford’s Sunken Diamond, I was happy to see that garlic fries were offered at the park. I was, that is, until I realized that I was supposed to be saving money and that spending $5 on garlic fries right after I had eaten a plate of corned beef hash and potatoes probably wasn’t the best use of my money. So, I told myself I would skip the garlic fries this time. Around the 3rd inning, though, I was starting to get thirsty and I thought it would be okay at least to get a drink. There’s no point in dehydrating myself. As I ordered my $5 Pepsi, though, Read the rest of this entry »

Sausage McMuffin with Egg

April 8, 2009

Is there a tastier fast food sandwich out there? Not as far as I’m concerned. For as long as I can remember, the Sausage McMuffin with Egg has been my favorite fast food item. Oh, how I wish McDonald’s would follow Jack in the Box’s lead and offer their breakfast menu all day long. It was another rough morning today due to Owen’s sleep, or should I say, non-sleep pattern. By the time I got to work at 7am, I was already exhausted. Usually, I bring a little fruit with me to work as breakfast. I’ve never really been much of a breakfast guy, so most mornings, an apple or banana is enough to get me to lunch. But not this morning. By 8am, I couldn’t think or focus on anything. That’s when the idea hit me. I needed a Sausage McMuffin w/Egg. Read the rest of this entry »

Farmers’ Markets

March 17, 2009

I’m torn. Up until a few weeks ago, almost every Sunday morning, I headed to the farmers’ market on California Avenue in Palo Alto. This market has a relatively small selection of produce, but it offers some other items I love. There’s a bakery stand that sells the tastiest brownies I’ve ever had. There’s another stand that sells some delicious smoked salmon. There’s also a seafood stand that sells a small, but fresh selection of fish. But the thing I love about this market the most is the Read the rest of this entry »
