It should be quite a day of football tomorrow. First we have the first 49ers playoff game since Colin was born. I can finally stop accusing Colin of being a curse on the 49ers. Then in the evening game, we have the Patriots versus the Tebows. That evening game will be a lot more fun to watch if the 49ers win their game. The playoffs are so much more interesting to me when the 49ers are involved. Which means in the past eight years or so, I haven’t watched many playoff games. Some years, I don’t even bother watching the Super Bowl. But tomorrow, I will be totally into football. The kids should not expect me to cook meals, play board games or help with homework tomorrow. The only questions I’m fielding tomorrow must be football-related. I watched the second half of the Saints game last week and yes, their offense looks very scary. It’s hard to imagine stopping a team with so many weapons. I’m hoping Candlestick Park and the 49ers defense combined are enough to slow down the Saints offense just enough for the 49ers to grind out a close victory, in the same manner that they’ve done throughout this season.
That Hue Jackson firing came as a surprise to me, but it’s a firing I agree with. My impression of Hue Jackson is based on his record and his remarks to the media. His record was 8-8, the same record that Tom Cable got fired for. If the Raiders had won that last game to make it to the playoffs, yes, maybe Jackson would have deserved another year. But instead, they lost in depressing fashion. As for Jackson’s press conferences, his arrogance really annoyed me. His remarks were always filled with “I”, “I” and “I”. “I will fix the penalties.” “I will build a bully.” Contrast that with Harbaugh’s remarks, which are always about the players and never about himself. Hue Jackson seemed a little too preoccupied with himself, when he needed to worry more about the team. Does he really need to get showered and dressed up in a fancy suit before meeting with the media after a game? Anyway, with a new GM in place, I think it made perfect sense to start fresh with a new head coach as well. I think Hue Jackson could be a good offensive coordinator, but I lost confidence in him as a head coach. The team committed way too many penalties, and placing all the blame on the players and defensive coaches after the Chargers loss was a really bad look.
