As I’ve mentioned before, I never have to worry about missing French Open or Wimbledon tennis finals anymore. Owen made sure I was awake in plenty of time for yesterday morning’s Federer/Roddick final. After last year’s greatest tennis match ever, we had another close five-setter this year, though oddly, I found this year’s final a bit tedious. Of course, there were some very tense points in the match, but overall, it’s a bit dull to watch the players take turns blasting their four serves past the other player. There weren’t many of those long and breathtaking rallies that filled last year’s final. Also removing some of the tension was the fact that I wasn’t rooting for anybody in particular. I would have been happy with either player winning, though as the match wore on, I started pulling a little more for Roddick, since he really brought his A-game and played well enough to deserve the win. But it was not to be, and I was still happy Federer got his record-breaking win, with Sampras in the house. I thought Sampras looked so cool in the stands with his suit and shades. I just love how classy Wimbledon tennis can be. It’ll be a different atmosphere at the US Open, and there, I’ll definitely be rooting for Roddick to continue his resurgence and pull off a win. Hopefully, Nadal can also return to action by then. The men’s side is pretty exciting these days.
So, the A’s representative at the All Star Game is Andrew Bailey. Good for him, I guess, but he doesn’t exactly have the same star power as Lincecum or Cain. Who knew that the Giants would outshine the A’s by so much this season?
I thought Lance Armstrong was going to give himself up for the team. That didn’t last long. Now there are multiple leaders on the same team? I don’t really understand the sport of cycling that well, I guess. Can two riders from the same team battle for the win? Does this ever happen?
