I really thought she would stop annoying me after November. Isn’t that what candidates do after they lose an election, they disappear for awhile? Governor Palin barely said a peep to the media during the election (with good reason), but now, it’s like she’s everywhere. I find many politicians annoying, Democratic and Republican, but few have gotten under my skin the way Governor Palin has. And now this. Who’s exploiting whom here? Did any reasonable person believe that Letterman was joking about the younger daughter? Of course not, but Palin and friends jumped at the opportunity to make a huge deal about this. Was the joke a bit crude? Of course, like about a thousand other jokes said during late night talk shows. I hate it when people take a simple misunderstanding and exploit it for their own gain. Such is the way of politics, I suppose, and Letterman has taken a lot of shots at Republicans, so I guess he has to be ready to take some hits, too. I think I’m switching my TiVo back to Letterman from Conan.
Speaking of people who really annoy me, what’s this I hear about Joe Buck having his own show? Really? I just don’t get why this guy is popular. He pretty much ruins the big sports games for me. At least in football, he’s teamed up with Troy Aikman, one of my favorite football commentators. But when Joe Buck and Tim McGarver get together for playoff baseball, I can’t stand listening to them. I just can’t stand Joe Buck. He has this smug smart-alecky way about him, but Bob Costas does too, and I love Costas. I think what really bugs me about Buck is that it seems like he doesn’t care about the game. What was great about John Madden was that you knew he loved the game. I think the same is true of Bob Costas. But to me, Joe Buck always seems to think that he’s too good for the game or something. I don’t know, maybe I’m completely off, but that’s what I think.

i must agree with your comments on the letterman joke. it was definitely crude, no doubt about it, but i also have a hard time trying to understand who would have actually thought that he was referring to the youngest daughter? c’mon.
joe buck is horrible. thom brennaman is worse. how many times during a game do we have to hear him referring to one of the players on the field with the now infamous line, “He’s a great guy”? …and don’t even get me started on tim mccarver. what does that guy bring to the table anyway? is he the only ex-ballplayer in the last 30 years willing to step into the booth? in fact, other than perhaps joe morgan and jon miller (two “locals” calling SNB), i can’t ever really remember a big game broadcast team that i actually liked. i could never stand vin scully and joe garagiola. i suppose now, in retrospect, i can respect scully for his love and dedication for the game, but 30 years ago, no sir. and him actually calling a giants/dodgers game and trying to act neutral? ya can’t do it, vinny!!
