A Visit from Colin

July 15, 2009

During this summer, with no school, Colin has dropped by the office a few times, once for a company party and a few times for lunch.  I wonder what he thinks of my job, as he sees me sitting and staring at my computer screen.  He’s probably thinking that’s the same thing he sees me doing at home all the time.  Anyway, Colin seems quite excited to sit with me in my cubicle, though I think that’s mostly because I let him watch a video while I do some work.  Today, however, Colin also got to eat at the company cafeteria for the first time.  Read the rest of this entry »

A Trip to AT&T Park

July 13, 2009

Despite a 10-4 drubbing by the Padres yesterday, I think I may have lost Colin forever to the Giants.  Wanting to be fair, after taking (dragging) Colin to two A’s games this season, yesterday I took him to a Giants game.  And he was immediately impressed by the place.  Of course, we made a stop at the Coca Cola Fan Lot, where Colin enjoyed going down the slides and watching other kids run around the “bases”.  He observed that the A’s home did not have any “kids’ stuff”.  I don’t think it was just the kids’ stuff that won him over, though.  Even though he’s young, I think Read the rest of this entry »

Triple O

July 9, 2009

I now realize my fear is a reality. The name “Owen” is too popular. While the name has maintained a ranking in the 50s for most popular boy names during the past few years, not really moving up or down much on the list, I thought that maybe a name in the 50s wasn’t too bad, even if I’ve noticed a lot of other kids with the same name, hearing that name called at parks, toy stores, libraries, anywhere there are lots of kids. But now, I can no longer ignore the evidence. Owen is about to become Read the rest of this entry »

Another Wimbledon Classic

July 6, 2009

As I’ve mentioned before, I never have to worry about missing French Open or Wimbledon tennis finals anymore.  Owen made sure I was awake in plenty of time for yesterday morning’s Federer/Roddick final.  After last year’s greatest tennis match ever, we had another close five-setter this year, though oddly, I found this year’s final a bit tedious.  Of course, there were some very tense points in the match, but overall, it’s a bit dull to watch the players take turns blasting their four serves past the other player.  There weren’t many of those long and breathtaking rallies that filled last year’s final.  Also Read the rest of this entry »

Waiting Lounge

July 1, 2009

Today begins my five-day weekend.  And where am I on the first morning of my extra long weekend?  I’m hanging out in the Subaru waiting lounge, waiting for some regular maintenance to be performed.  The atmosphere of the waiting lounge between this Subaru one and a MINI/BMW one is like night and day.  And this is after the Subaru one has gone through a renovation.  At least they have Wi-Fi access here now.  Also, thankfully, they’ve moved the restroom Read the rest of this entry »
