Playing Catch Up

November 5, 2009

While I was in San Diego last week, I had a chance to catch up on shows that I had put onto my iPod.  I finished off season 3 of “Dexter”, which was another terrific season.  “Dexter” manages to be suspenseful, surprising, funny and even occasionally touching, all in the same episode.  I still can’t believe how much I love a show about a serial killer.  I also began watching season 4 of “Weeds”, which might be getting a bit too dark for my tastes.  I’ll finish the season off, but I don’t find myself laughing all that often anymore, so that might be it for me.

While catching up on some of these favorite shows of mine, my Read the rest of this entry »

A Week of Fun

November 4, 2009

It’s so nice when every morning, the only thing I had to think about was the best way to have fun.  I didn’t have to worry about getting the kids to school or rushing to a work meeting.  Having fun was the only goal last week.  That was my first out-of-town vacation in over two-and-a-half years, so it was long overdue.  Though it was really more of Colin’s vacation, who dictated where we were going and what we were doing most of the time, I still enjoyed the vacation immensely.  In summary, it was three days of Legoland and two days of SeaWorld.  Colin probably had more fun than me, but I think every parent would agree, Read the rest of this entry »

Off to San Diego

October 23, 2009

Anywhere in the world, I asked him.  Colin has the week off from school next week and I asked him where he wanted to visit.  The answer, not surprisingly, was San Diego.  Legoland remains his favorite destination.  When we were living in Los Angeles, I was all for it.  Now Legoland is quite a drive away.  I tried to convince Colin to visit Disneyland instead, which would shave two hours off the drive.  Plus, I really like Disneyland.  Everything there is so clean and organized.  And, not that a high bar is set, but I think they have the tastiest food for a theme park.  But no, Colin insisted on Legoland, and Read the rest of this entry »

At the Movies, Finally

October 20, 2009

As I get older, it becomes harder to be the youngest person in the room.  Patti and I managed this last Sunday, however.  How?  We went to see “Julie and Julia”.  There’s nothing like Meryl Streep to bring out the senior citizens, I guess.  The movie I really wanted to see was the Harry Potter one, but unfortunately, it was no longer playing in any theaters.  (What happened to discount theaters?)  I’ve been wanting to see the Harry Potter movie since the day it came out, but every weekend, something came up.  Sometimes I had to work, sometimes Patti had to work.  Other times Colin had a birthday party to attend.  And I’ll admit, on some Sundays I Read the rest of this entry »

One Week Later

October 14, 2009

Last week at this time, people were talking about Stanford possibly going to the Rose Bowl and the 49ers challenging for the top of the NFC.  One week later, there are concerns about whether Stanford can go to any bowl at all and whether the 49ers can reach .500.  It was a humbling weekend of football for both teams.  They were riding high on waves of praise and rising expectations and then knocked back down to reality.  Stanford has a really tough stretch of teams to face at the end of their schedule (Oregon, USC, Cal, Notre Dame), so they Read the rest of this entry »
